How to Clean Air Conditioner at Home ?

It is important to clean your Air Conditioner once in a month or two not only to maintain optimal performance but also to prevent any unnecessary expense and repair. Sometimes we get curious to clean our Air Conditioner by ourselves, just to save some time and money. It is easy to clean if you follow the below steps:

Step By Step Guide – How to Clean Air Conditioner at Home

Step 1: Turn Off the Power Entirely

Before you open up the front panel of your Air Conditioner to clean, turn off the power supply entirely to Indoor and Outdoor from the switchboard.

Step 2: Open up the Front Panel

Remove or lift up the front panel by removing screws to access the Filters of your Air Conditioner and Evaporator coil.

Step 3: Take Out the Filters

The first rectangular pieces that you see are your filters so take them out gently. Before we move on to the next step, make sure to clean them with a vacuum cleaner or a toothbrush to remove dust from the filters.

Step 4: Wash the Filters

Put the filters under a tap of cold water to clean them thoroughly. If it is not enough to remove the dirt, then rub a sponge soaked in cleaning detergent and wash them off. Let the filters dry naturally but avoid drying in sunlight as it can damage filters.

Step 5: Clean the Bacteria Filters

In case if your Air Conditioner unit has bacteria filters, clean it just like Air Filters. Make sure to let it dry completely before you fix it.

Step 6: Clean the Cooling Fins

Take a toothbrush and gently clean the fins or use a vacuum cleaner to clean off the dust, keep in mind that Fins are very delicate and bend over a little force. You can also spray the Air Conditioner cleaner on the Fins to fill your room with fresh air whenever you run your Air Conditioner.

Step 7: Clean the Coil

You can use a No-rinse Evaporator Spray to clean the copper coils. After spraying leaves the coil for 20-30 minutes before you wipe it off. Also, use a paintbrush to remove stubborn debris build up if any.

Step 8: Spray Antifungal Spray

Antifungal spray sanitizes the Evaporator Coils and Fins, which prevent mould growth and overall results in fresh and healthy air. Spray 10 minutes before you fix the filters.

Step 9: Fix the Removed Filters

Now, fix the bacteria and Air Filters to their original position and make sure they are dried out. In case if you face any problem while assembling them, do check the user manual or call the customer care.

Step 10 (Final): Turn On Your Air Conditioner

After fixing all the parts which were removed, turn on your Air Conditioner by reconnecting it to power source and check if your Air Conditioner is running properly. Make sure to run your Air Conditioner at max cooling for 15-20 minutes to drain out all the dirty water into a bucket till it is fully drained out.

Congrats you have made it, now enjoy the comfort and fresh air.
